- I already have a program installed on my PC before I installed Trash it! Can Trash it! uninstall that?
No. The way Trash it! works, is that it monitors Setup programs while they are being run which means that Trash it! can only uninstall programs installed after Trash it! is already installed and running.
- While installing Trash it!, I get an error message saying "Administrator privileges required"
This happens only if you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Due to system files added during the installation of Trash it!, Administrative privileges are required. Just re-login as Administrator and install Trash it! If you are part of a network, ask your system administrator to do it for you.
- Trash it! doesn't delete all files in my windows Temp folder!
Some temporary files may be in use by Windows when you run Trash it! Such files will not by deleted for they may cause problems in other running applications. Trash it! only deletes those temporary files that are not in use.
- Trash it! Automatic Setup Detection does not ignore a setup program that I added to the "Ignore Setup Programs" list!
The ignoring setup programs feature may not work with a few specific installation programs. The way these few installation programs work is that when you start them, they extract (un-compress) the main setup program in a temporary folder and run this temporary program to actually install the application. Because of this dual (and temporary) nature, the application you choose to ignore may not actually be the real installation program, in which case ignoring that setup program may not work.
- Is there some way to speed up Update Database and Finding Changes?
Yes. Most programs are installed on your main drive (generally "C:\"). In the main screen, enable scanning only for your C:\ drive. This will speed things up a bit.
- Can I scan two or more hard drives together for changes made by an installation program?
Yes you can. Trash it! version 1.20 onwards supports scanning for two or more hard drives simultaneously. In the drive list box, select "Local hard drives" to enable scanning for all your hard drives.
- I use a browser other than Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. How do I make the Trash it! System Cleaner scan my browsers cache?
There is a way. However you need to know the exact location of your browsers cache on your hard drive. Check your hard drive manually or check your browser settings to locate the folder. Once you've located the folder, in the System Clean-up screen, click on the Temporary Folders tab, and then click on the Add button. In the dialog box that pops up, choose your browser's Cache folder, and the next time you scan for temporary folders, Trash it! will scan for your browser's Cache as well.
- Why are some of the system tools mentioned in the Tools menu not enabled?
You may not have those specific tools installed on your system. In particular, the Disk Cleanup, the System File Checker and the Maintenance Wizard tools are available only in Windows 98.
- I see a "A required system file Msvbvm60.dll file is missing" message when I try to run Trash it!
Trash it! requires the Microsoft Visual Basic 6 runtime files to be present on your system to run. Depending upon from where you downloaded Trash it, the Trash it! setup may not contain the runtime files to reduce download time. If you see this message, you need to download the VB6 runtime files. Click here to download the VB6 runtime files.
